Doing GOOD: Muskrat Lakes Trailhead

Doing GOOD: Muskrat Lakes Trailhead

Summer 2025

As winter settles over Fairbanks, Alaska, we’re looking back at one of our favorite warm-weather projects from this past summer—planting spruce and birch trees at the Muskrat Lakes Trailhead. At GOOD Cannabis, community involvement is core to who we are, and helping care for local outdoor spaces is one of the ways we give back.

If you use this trail system, you already know, Muskrat Lakes is a gem…quiet, scenic, and well-loved by locals The trailhead connects Farmer’s Loop to the Creamer’s Field Refuge and offers one of the easiest entry points into a truly special pocket of Fairbanks. So when the Interior Alaska Land Trust asked us to pitch in, we didn’t hesitate.

The crew in 2022

Back in 2022, before the trailhead even existed, the GOOD crew rolled up to help clean the newly acquired lot, hauling away debris, clearing space, and prepping the ground for new growth.

Three years later, after the trailhead was established and already being used by the community, we came back with gloves, shovels, and a lot of enthusiasm to plant trees that will shape the future of the space. There’s something grounding about putting your hands in the soil knowing that, in a few years, you’ll pass those same trees and see the difference a little effort can make.

Now, as those young saplings ride out their first Fairbanks winter, we’re seeing the project come full circle. The trail is open. Snow has settled in. And the work done in summer is quietly doing its job beneath the frost.

We’re grateful for partners like the Interior Alaska Land Trust, for trails that bring our community together, and for the chance to give back to the places we use and love.

If you haven’t checked out Muskrat Lakes Trailhead yet, winter is the perfect time, whether you’re hiking, running, skiing, or fat biking. Here’s to many more seasons at Muskrat Lakes!
